At Parkside Cabin Rentals, we know that dogs are considered part of the family. That’s why we offer a great selection of pet friendly cabins, so you can bring your best friend along on your trip to the Smokies! We have put together five easy steps for planning a pet friendly Gatlinburg cabin vacation:
1. Choose The Right Pet Friendly Cabin
Parkside Cabin Rentals offers over 20 pet friendly cabins in Gatlinburg, so you are guaranteed to find the perfect cabin for your needs. Choose a cabin with anywhere from one to five bedrooms, depending on the size of your group. Our pet friendly cabins have all of the luxuries and amenities that our guests have come to expect from Parkside Cabin Rentals, including full kitchens, fireplaces, hot tubs, and pool tables. Relax on the deck with your furry friend as you enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding your cabin!
2. Make a List of Items to Pack
While making a list of things to pack for your vacation in Gatlinburg, be sure to include those items that your pet will need in the cabin. Pack a dog bowl, food, blankets, collar tag with ID, medication, and any other thing that your dog might need on your trip. Also, don't forget to pack a leash so that you can enjoy a fun local hike with your pooch! If you happen to forget something, head over to Paws and Claws Pet Fashion at the Mountain Mall to find anything you’re missing. In addition, local convenience shops sell a limited amount of pet supplies.
3. Get Any Necessary Vaccinations for Your Dog
Prior to leaving for Gatlinburg, check that your dog is up to date on any required vaccinations and immunizations. Consider the Bordetella vaccine, commonly known as the kennel shot, for your dog just in case you might have your dog in a kennel for even a short time during your trip. Many kennels require this vaccine, so contact your vet to discuss this option in advance so that you can enjoy a stress free vacation!
4. Make Your Dog Feel Comfortable
Once you arrive at Parkside Cabin Rentals for your pet friendly Gatlinburg cabin vacation, you'll want to make sure that your dog is as comfortable as possible in a different environment. Determine in advance where your pet will sleep, whether it is in a crate or a comfy dog bed. That way, when you arrive, you can get your dog accustomed to the cabin as quickly as possible.
5. Research Pet Friendly Attractions
As you plan your vacation itinerary, be sure to research which local attractions are pet friendly or have kennel facilities. For example, Dollywood has a kennel called Doggywood where you can board your pet as you enjoy the theme park’s thrilling rides and shows (sorry, but dogs aren't allowed on the rollercoasters!). If you are planning a visit to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, keep in mind that dogs must be on a leash at all times and are allowed in picnic areas, along roads, and in the campgrounds. In addition, they are allowed on two short walking paths in the national park, the Gatlinburg Trail and the Oconaluftee River Trail.
