Ok Ya'll, let's talk. I am giving this place a 4 star rating because the staff was nice as all get out. They were as welcoming and helpful as could be. Everything else was a three. My issues are more with the way this cabin was advertised vs the reality. Cons: Advertised as "nestled in the woods" giving the impression that it might at least be surrounded by woods, even if it is close to 441. Yeah, no. There is a ravine off to your right and on the other side of said ravine is a bit of forest. In front of you is a fine view of 441 traffic and another cabin. To the left, is another cabin. This cabin held occupants who evidently were very interested in looking at us, for they watched through their blinds. A lot. Behind the cabin, and I mean like within touching distance, is a hill, is, to all intents and purposes, built into the side of this hill. "Sleeps four", yeah, ok, if you really REALLY like each other. This is a two person place. Has fireplace. Yep, it does, a gas fire. I have no problems with a gas log, but damn, there is no way to adjust it. You got a weeny flame but some kind of blower behind it pumps heat out at a furious rate and even though it was 30 degrees outside, we had to open the windows to use the fireplace. And were thus treated to the lively traffic noise, so very close by. Please for the love of god, update that fireplace, put a control that the occupants can use to adjust blower and heat and flame. OK, so with all the heat, we ended up turning on the A/C in the bedroom in order to sleep. You know what the A/C unit fan does ALL NIGHT? It lurches to life loudly, runs for about ten minutes tops (just enough time to doze off) and then it loudly clunks off, making sure you wake right back up. Ten minutes later, this horrible cycle starts over. Until you turn it off completely, and try to sleep. If you try to go to the living room and sleep there, the energetic ice maker rolls into productions around 0400. Sounded like the ice cubes were fighting for territory. I startled awake thinking that someone was knocking on the door. This went on for twenty minutes. The hot tub was adequate, but the privacy fence around it was not. It blocked the one view you had of any forest, but was open to the cabins next to you and the driveway that lead to three cabins. Remember the interested window-peekers next door? Last thing, what is a "Peace of Mind" charge? $40 added to our bill did not in fact, bring me peace of mind. Pros: Price in general. $139 advertised, but $198 actual (junks fees) was still fair enough. You'd pay the same at least for a hotel room if you can get one during the holidays up there and would have a nice front porch and kitchen. Location. Even with the weird neighbors, and 441 noise, we did not worry about the traffic jam to get into town, we walked the mile or so, and it was fun. The Kitchen. Very well appointed, modern-ish and clean. Ditto the nice bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. The washer/dryer combo most welcome too. A View. Aside from the less than charming view of 441, there was actually above the road, a rather pretty view of the mountains from the front porch. A tiny waterfall. No kidding. Right outside the (open) windows on the back side of the cabin, an itty bitty trickle of a waterfall tinkled most pleasantly down from the rocks in the hill behind it. On the one sunny day, light glittered off of it. So there you have it. I am left feeling ambivalent about our stay. The things that bother me, may well not bother you.
