Friends enjoying time outdoors in the Smoky Mountains
May 19, 2014

Summer has finally arrived. With it has come warm nights, vacation days and the desire for adventure. If you can’t wait to get out and transform your summer into something magical, we have some off-the-beaten-path adventures that will be the perfect addition to any summer bucket list. So, grab a pencil and jot down some of these fun things to do in the Smoky Mountains this summer.

Outdoor Adventure

For the family vacation, exploring the National Park is ideal. We recommend starting at Cades Cove because there are a variety of outdoor activities to enjoy while on the Loop Road. While some of the family plays by the creek and relaxes at the picnic area, others can wander off upstream to fish in some of the best trout spots in the park.

After a few hours fishing and splashing, the family can take the tour through the Loop Road to one of the hiking trails or over to the historic cabins, where you’ll be able to stretch your legs and take in a bit of history .

Taste the Culture

If you’re more interested in tasting and sampling than casting a line, Gatlinburg, Sevierville and Pigeon Forge boast one of the best winery tours in the SouthEast. The Rocky Top Wine Trail features five wineries within 12 miles of one of the best vacation destinations in the country, The Great Smoky Mountains.

You can visit each winery individually or take a four hour tour of all five on the wine trail. Either way, you can still enjoy sampling the wines and touring the beautiful locations.

If you have kids along for the vacation, they might enjoy one of the area’s vintage diners or soda shops. For full family fun, consider one of the popular dinner theaters for entertainment and a delicious meal.
