Family tubing down a water slide at Dolly's Splash Country
February 28, 2013

Take a break from the summer heat by heading to Dollywood's Splash Country water park. The park has been open for many years, offering guests a place to cool off and have fun in the middle of all the excitement that Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, has to offer, and will give its patrons some new experiences with brand new additions set to open in 2013.

Headlining Dollywood's Splash Country this year is the brand new RiverRush attraction, set to open up in May 2013. RiverRush will be the only water coaster in the entire state of Tennessee. The ride will take small boats full of both adults and accompanied children on a twisting and turning ride through the Smokey Mountain wilderness starting four stories up and coming down quickly. The course features four heart-stopping drops, hairpin turns, steep climbs, and a lot of twists, all coupled with cool, refreshing rushing water.

While the park has been open since 2001, a number of popular attractions have been added in the past six years. The Cascades was added in 2007, featuring an 8,000 square foot lagoon, water sprays, and more than 20 different slides for the fun and enjoyment of children of all ages. The attraction features a beach entry, thousands of feet of deck space, plenty of seating, and a huge waterfall. This section is hailed as a retreat for the entire family, featuring slides fit for older children and adults as well as those that appeal to younger members. A number of cabanas in The Cascades have been opened in the past several years as well, allowing families to stay closer to the action they want to experience.

SwiftWater Run was added in 2008 as another thrill ride for the park. This ride takes individuals on a white-knuckle ride in a large inner tube. Tubes hold only single riders as they are propelled through dark tunnels, corkscrew sections, and more exciting features before splashing down into the landing pool.

Four lanes of water racing fun can be found at the Slick Rock Racer, which opened in 2010. This super-wet mat slide takes participants on a 300 foot wet track. Riders go head-first down the lanes, which feature periodic bumps to help them gain speed before the final splash down.

With something for everyone, Dollywood's Splash Country is an ideal stop during a mountain vacation. Take the entire family for a stay, or just a visit, and have a great time in the sun.
