Coming to the Smoky Mountains doesn’t mean you have to spend a ton of money to have fun! There are plenty of cheap things to do in the Smoky Mountains. From trying different kinds of moonshine to browsing through shops, you can have all kinds of fun without spending a ton of money. Check out these top 5 cheap things to do in the Smoky Mountains:

1. Visit a Distillery

A great activity that doesn’t cost much is visiting a distillery. There are several moonshine distilleries in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. For a small $5 fee, you can taste a variety of the moonshine flavors each shop offers. You must be at least 21 years old to participate. One of the most popular distilleries is Ole Smoky Moonshine . There are two locations: one in Gatlinburg along the Strip and one in Pigeon Forge at The Island. They have all kinds of moonshine flavors, including White Lightnin’, Apple Pie, Blackberry, and Margarita.

2. Go on a Wine Trail

You won’t have to pay for much if you go along a wine trail in the Smokies! Most of the wineries will allow you to do free tastings of their wine, so you’ll just have to pay for gas to get there! The Gatlinburg Winery Trail has quite a few wineries along the way, including the number one winery in Tennessee! The trail features Tennessee Homemade Wines, Tennessee Cider Co., Smokin' Banjo, and Old Mountain Wine Company. In Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, you can go along the Rocky Top Wine Trail. The wineries along this trail include Hillside Winery, Mill Bridge Winery, and Mountain Valley Winery.

3. Ride a Mountain Coaster

Another cheap thing to do in the Smoky Mountains is ride a mountain coaster . You’ll have a ton of fun racing along the track and taking in the beautiful scenery. Plus, you can’t beat the great prices! On any of the coasters in the area, you get to control your speed. Race along the track or take a leisurely ride. In Gatlinburg, you can ride the Gatlinburg Mountain Coaster . If you’re in Pigeon Forge, you should ride the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster .

4. Go Shopping

A popular thing to do in the Smoky Mountains is to shop. Since you get to control how much you spend, it can be as cheap or expensive as you want! There are several places where you can shop in the Smokies. The Village Shops in Gatlinburg are popular. This little shopping center looks like a European town with brick buildings and quaint shops. Other places to shop in Gatlinburg include Baskins Square and the Mountain Mall. In Sevierville, you should shop at the Ogle Brothers General Store. They have all kinds of cool kitchen gadgets, Smoky Mountain souvenirs, and so much more.

5. Taste Sweets

A cheap thing to do in the Smoky Mountains that will be fun for anyone is tasting sweets. You’ll find ice cream shops and candy stores all throughout the Smoky Mountains. You can try fudge, candy clusters, taffy, and other types of candy. Ogle Brothers General Store has a candy counter. The Chocolate Monkey has several locations in the area. The Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen is another place you can go and grab some sweets!
